AGENT IN ACTION
How a workforce and shift planning agent works.
What it does
The agent builds rosters against demand, skills, availability and labor rules, and rebuilds them when someone calls in sick. It knows who is certified, who has rested enough and who has already covered too many shifts.
The objective
Every shift covered, every rule respected, and no planner rebuilding a roster at night. Changes flow straight into the workforce system and into payroll.

Simulated walkthrough, five steps. One: an absence is reported for tomorrow's early shift on Line B, leaving one certified forklift operator short. Two: the agent checks the roster against the configured site rules, nine certified employees, six available for the full shift, three excluded for insufficient rest or the weekly hours cap, three eligible. Three: the three eligible candidates are ranked by rest before the shift, weekly hours after it and extra shifts already worked this month; Employee 014 is recommended and Employees 027 and 031 are backups. Four: the offer is accepted at 18:20, the rules are rechecked, the roster is updated and the coverage gap goes to zero; only the affected shift changed. Five: the employee and the supervisor are notified, the workforce system and payroll are synced, and the audit trail is complete. Payable hours are finalized after attendance validation. Illustrative scenario with sample data.
